Talking Cars 415: Driving the Honda Accord

Main theme: The redesigned 2023 Honda Accord carries on an enduring legacy among cars. It is among the few nameplates that debuted in the late 1970s that is still in production today. The Accord has always been among the best-performing midsized family sedans in CR’s testing, with an incredible consistency of easy-to-use controls and a reputation for delivering rock-solid reliability. The standard engine is a 192-hp, 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo matched to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Our panelists discuss the Accord’s many strengths—such as its satisfying handling, and the excellent driving position and visibility—as well as its weaknesses, most notably a somewhat noisy cabin and an uncomfortable driver’s seat.

Audience question: Are people buying SUVs to combat the generally poor state of most roads, or because many lack proper driver training? Trucks and SUVs with raised ride heights and rugged tires might, say, fare better on roads riddled with potholes, right? And since it seems as if drivers are no longer paying attention behind the wheel and driving way too fast, do people think they need bigger vehicles to be protected from these hazards?
